I would definitely say I have grown as a creative writer. I have never taken a course like this. This class taught me how to think outside the box. It was fun taking scenarios from my life and turning it, into truly creative stories. Most of my pieces of writing were about a memorable moment in my past life so it was fun to reminisce about my childhood and collaborate with my family to help me write my pieces. The pieces that I wrote are really different from my writings because I'm used to writing academic papers. The papers I right are not personal or based on me. It's more about researching entering the information you found into your own words. The only thing I found challenging was making my pieces more descriptive. It was hard to really try to paint a visual image for the readers. I was great at creating good dialogue. My favorite piece I read was "Angela's ashes" by Frank Mc court. It was very interesting and I love reading about the family and the struggles they were going through. It was real life and it showed that it could be relatable to others.
This a snippet from my "Memoir piece"
"As I walked toward with the principal to get my diploma, there was a lot of clapping going on and all my classmates and friends were screaming my name. One particular voice stood out for me though. As I got to the middle of the stage I heard, "You did M&m". I looked out to where my parents were sitting and I saw my brother right beside them. I started crying out of happiness at the sight of him, and finally realizing that today I really had accomplished a big goal by graduating. I don't know how he did it I was just so glad he made it. He has yet to let me down. We are still close now and I hope it stays like this forever."

Blog assignment # 6

Confessions of an unhappy young man
"Then I had the twins. And my life fell apart"
This profile was about a woman name Meredith Bland who is a mother of twins. Her life is really stressful right now. She is going through post partum depression. It's hard for her to balance her life with the twins strange sleeping and eating habits. She feels alone because her husband went back to work two weeks after the kids were born. So she is a little sensitive and overwhelmed dealing with everything by herself. Something I found interesting is the fact that she talked about how much of a struggle it was to even get pregnant and carry the baby full term, but when she had twins she became depressed. I would assume after all the miscarriges and all the money she invested in "IVF" she would be beyond excited that she got not one blessing but two. I think the journalist chose to write about this piece to show real life situations that can easily happen with any female after having a child. She gave us insight on how stressful it was but to show us in the end how she was able to overcome it and find happiness in having twins.
"Twins ? That must be so much fun," she chirps.
"I want to beat her to death with the twins Sophie the Giraffe teethers."
This quote gave us a real life feeling of what she was going through when she would take the twins out and people would stare and smile and compliment them. In her mind at that time it was annoying. All she could think about was how difficult it is taking care of them at the same time. The fact that they gave a hard time to eat when she would try to breastfeed them and how they sleep little and wake up with the slightest noise.
I really enjoyed reading this profile. It was written in a way that she helped you visualize exactly what she was going through. The story seemed relatable even if you may not have gone through this exact situation. It is similar and comparable to other situations. For example, if you really wanted something but when you got it you almost felt like you regret getting it but then you decide to see the good with it and make the best out of it. This profile was written so clearly and creatively.

Blog assignment # 5
Dominique
She is outgoing, determined, and a hardworker. She has a part-time job as a beauty consultant at CVS Four days out the week. She also has a part-time job as makeup artist she does on the weekends. She is a part time student at York College where she studies Business Marketing. Amongst all these things she is a full time daughter and girlfriend. Someone with a schedule this full your probably thinking when does she sleep, or have time for herself. This is exactly why I chose to interview her. I would like her to give me a run through of what a typical week is like for her. How she manages to keep on top of her school work, earn her hours at work, and still have time for family and a social life.

Blog Assignment 4: Prozac Nation
"I would like, so much, to be one of those independent women like Barbara Stanwyck in baby face or Jean Harlow in Red Headed woman or any noir film in any old movie who can love'em leave'em with impunity."
"These are the same tears I cry when I hear the gospel song that goes This little light of mine, I'm gonna make it shine, and I think of the way that ordinary people are able to triumph, in many ways small and large, over adversity."
" I am an artist manque, someone full of crazy ideas and grandiloquent needs and even a little bit of happiness, but with no particular way to express it."
The writer's style is effective to me because she uses relatable descriptions. She captures readers mind by making them think about a time when they felt like that in a particular moment. The author develops a character by showing her compassion for women. She talks about the empowerment of women by discussing the book "Surfacing" and the female gymnasts on the TV. She wins us over by showing how true life situations can cause depression, for example the end of a relationship. She's interesting because she takes you through all the different levels of depression. First she says she doesn't want to hear from Rafe then she's looking out for his phone call. Then she goes from taking different prescribed drugs to calm herself down. I think this was published and successful because it was interesting, she gave great descriptive insight to what she was going through. It is also relatable to females.

Blog Assignement # 3 - "Describing a Photo"

This image is from the LaGuardia and Wagner Archives. This image has three hard working men it. Two of the workers are wearing button up shirts that are rolled up to there elbow and ties, slacks, and aprons. The other gentleman is dressed a little informal. He has his apron folded in half tied around his waist and he also is wearing a button up shirt with the sleeves cut off. The guy with the sleeveless shirt and one of the other guys are positioned towards the front of the fruit/vegetable stand. They look happy and honored to take the picture. One reason can be because maybe there are in business together. Maybe they own this establishment together and are happy to do well with there business. They can also be happy to have a job. This can possibly be there first job they ever got. Maybe they’ve been out of work for a little while and they finally landed this new job to get them back on there feet. The other gentleman is standing towards the back. He doesn’t look that interested to take the picture. This can be maybe because he feels embarrassed to work here. Maybe he feels that this job is beneath him. It could be a bad day for him. He could be upset or jealous because maybe he is not the owner like how the other two guys might be. He could just be an employee working under them. Also I noticed that the two gentlemen in front body language are relaxed. One guy hands are on his side and the other laying comfortably at his side. The man that seems standoffish in the back, hands is folded behind his back looking a little suspicious. Something else that I noticed about this picture was the price of fruits or vegetables or what can be both that were being sold are a lot more expensive back at that time. There is something in a barrel that looks like maybe green peppers and it is being sold for 2 for 25. What looks like a bundle of asparagus is priced at 3 bundles for 10. I’m also thinking this maybe is being sold with different current exchange because on the cardboard that says 3 for 10, this sign (e) is located in the top right corner. The (e) sign represents the European money. It’s called euros. This is puzzling because this picture was taking in 1941 in Queens, New York. That being it should be in American money dollars. I also notice the big Sunkist sign in the back of the men and the clocked positioned right next to it. The stores next door to this fruit/vegetable stand give off the vibe that there not doing to well. It looks a little broke down and no is in front of it or passing by it. It looks almost abandoned. In this picture the sidewalk seems to be slightly dirty. There are little pieces of residue on the floor. I felt that the photographer took this picture because he wanted to capture the essence of hardworking men. Although all of them don’t seem happy it clearly shows that they work there. Whether they like working there or not is not important to the photographer. He wanted to show the success of this fruit/vegetable stand.

"Author's Note"
"After all my failures of home remedies and oral gel I told myself it's time to visit the dentist office. Anyone that knows me kmows that dentists and I don't get along. It started at the age of 7yrs old when I kicked one in the knee for tugging on my teeth."
I wrote about this story because it was the most recent craziest thing that happened to me. I would say to understand this piece you need to know the severity of the pain I went through. My wisom tooth was trying to burst through the gums but couldnt because I had no more room for it to grow. When the surgeon removed the top left one he had to dig threw my gums to get the tooth out. To revise this paper for my eportfolio I would finish the story by writing about my second visit to get the others removed. I find that writing non-fiction stories versus other writing's are more interesting because it's real, something that actually happened. With other writing's such as academic essays you have to do more research to write it because your using other people's information to write it. I learned that a vignette is totally different from just writing about a story straight forward. A vignette is structured differently. It has to have breaks in the story, and the story should be more descriptive. It should also have dialogue. I revised my paper by re-writing it. Taking out things and adding different details.

Welcome to my blog
Hi everyone my name is Candace king,
Im a pretty down to earth person. I consider myself to be very determined , kind, and caring. My major is Radiology Technology. This is my first semester at LaGuardia. So far I really like LaGuardia, the buildings are nice inside and all my professors are cool. The Worst part LaGuardia is the travel from my house to the school and the distance from the train station to the school. It takes me and hour and twenty minutes to get to the stop I have to get off at and then its about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station to the school. This is a big disadvantage for me but you have to deal with tough things like this in life. I can only imagine how hard of a walk it will be in the winter especially when it starts snowing. I have never had the space in my schedule to take a class like this especially since it is not a class that is required for my major. The reason I took this class was because I love to write, free write, and do creative writing. Creative non-fiction means to me writing the truth about something in a creative way. Getting the point across in a way that it will intrigue the writers instead of just stating the facts in a plain way. I look forward to having a lot of fun in this class and getting a good grade in this course.
